The Battle of Brooklyn, fought in August 1776 on land that is now a part of Green-Wood Cemetery, was the first battle of the American Revolution to be waged after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In memory of the brave patriots who battled for our country’s independence, The Green-Wood Historic Fund hosts a day of free commemoration ceremonies and trolley tours. 
In the era of Madoff and Ponzi, America has all but forgotten about the original king of the swindle, Ferdinand Ward. Join Geoffrey Ward, acclaimed historian and great-grandson of Ferdinand, to delve into the sordid details of this sweet-talking con man. 
As part of the 2012 openhousenewyork weekend, Green-Wood will open many of its most famous and elaborate mausoleums for public perusal. Guides and actors in period costume will offer a glimpse into the lives of the people who now rest in these opulent structures.
