Interrogating the complex relationship between grief and personal identity, Tendler creates an immersive environment that meditates on the ways we attach ourselves to memories and physical objects, and the possibilities for letting them go. Layering music, text, visuals, and found objects, this semi-autobiographical work includes notes, voice memos, and personal objects sourced from the local Green-Wood community. At the conclusion of the installation, the accumulated items will be ritualistically discarded as part of a closing ceremony.

Adam Tendler, Green-Wood’s third artist in residence, is a New York based pianist and author. He is recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists and the 2022 Yvar Mikhashoff Prize, and a Yamaha Artist. He is an internationally recognized interpreter of living, modern, and classical composers and a pioneer of DIY culture in concert music. You can learn more about Adam and his practice on his website

Have a Listen! Tendler will be periodically uploading tracks that will be on loop in the installation, you preview them here.

More details about Exit Strategy and the closing ceremony are forthcoming.

The Fort Hamilton Gatehouse is located just inside Green-Wood’s Fort Hamilton Parkway Entrance (Fort Hamilton Parkway and Micieli Place.) It is an approximately 10 minute walk from the Fort Hamilton F and G Train Station.
