About Green-Wood
Established in 1838, The Green-Wood Cemetery is one of the world’s most beautiful cemeteries. Its historic landscape and grand architecture draw over half a million visitors each year. Green-Wood is also an accredited arboretum and a hub for climate resilience in New York City. Throughout the year, Green-Wood serves New Yorkers with inspirational programs in arts and culture, workforce training, death education, and a full roster of school field trips.
About Richard J. Moylan
Richard J. Moylan has served as president of The Green-Wood Cemetery since 1986, guiding the institution through nearly four transformative decades. As a Brooklyn native, Moylan began his career at Green-Wood as a college student with a summer job cutting the grass and went on to hold nearly every position at the Cemetery before stepping into leadership.
Under his visionary guidance, Green-Wood has evolved into a vibrant cultural destination, center for education and research, and model of environmental stewardship. From securing National Historic Landmark status to expanding programming in arts and culture, Moylan has shaped Green-Wood into one of New York City’s most beloved spaces—for remembrance, reflection, and discovery.
