Shaping LGBTQ+ History: A Family Tour and Workshop

October 17th , 10:00am 12:00pm

Credit: Green-Wood Staff

Green-Wood has partnered with History UnErased to bring families together to learn about LGBTQ+ historical figures memorialized at Green-Wood, then create their own clay art inspired by them. Together we’ll introduce families to queer representation in history and the arts, model age-appropriate conversations about LGBTQ+ identities, and give families a joyful way to express themselves through keepsakes they’ll treasure.

First, board our trolley to visit the graves of sculptors, painters, composers, and more. Then head to the classroom to make your own keychain, earrings, pendant, or other clay trinket, guided by Green-Wood’s educators and History UnErased’s teaching artists.

History UnErased is putting LGBTQ history in its rightful place  the classroom  and uniting all “We the People” with a more complete story of America. Since 2018, History UnErased has been working with NYC Public Schools with funding from the New York City Council.

All materials will be provided and no experience with clay is necessary. Space is limited. Participants must reserve tickets.

The content of this program will be aimed at children ages 5 and older and their families, but younger siblings are also welcome! Participants must have at least one child in their group and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum of four children to one adult participant.
