Naming the Lost Memorials Activation Ceremony

NAMING THE LOST Memorials (NTLM) is a small team of artists, activists, and folklorists that has been curating memorial sites in New York City to name and remember victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.

From May 8–June 8, 2025, in partnership with City Lore and with a grant from the Mellon Foundation, NTLM presents a community public art memorial at Green-Wood.

Created with help from New York City community partners, the memorial will be on view along the fence at Green-Wood’s Main Entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn. Click here for more information.

On May 8th, we ask the public to join us for the dedication and activation of the memorial in front of Green-Wood’s Historic Chapel. The ceremony will bring together the NTLM team and community partners for an evening that will include a procession, traditional singers, and a participatory ritual of remembrance. We welcome all to join us in commemorating those who died of COVID-19 and remembering them together.

The activation ceremony will be livestreamed on City Lore’s YouTube channel.

BEFORE RESERVING YOUR SPOT, PLEASE NOTE:

  • Location: This ceremony will take place in front of the Historic Chapel, near the Main Entrance on Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232). 
  • No paper or e-tickets will be necessary. Attendees will not be checked in, registration is to gauge attendance. 
  • For Your Comfort and Safety: The 5-minute walk to the Historic Chapel includes uneven terrain and stairs. We strongly encourage attendees to wear suitable footwear. A vehicle will be available to transport those who need assistance getting to the site.
  • Feeling Sick? Stay home if you are feeling sick or running a fever.
