Well, it wasn’t easy getting through this long and cold winter. But, spring has finally arrived at Green-Wood. Spring–a time of rebirth, a time of bloom, a time of life, renewed and restored.
So, a few photographs of one of the real pleasures at Green-Wood: our earliest spring blooms.
Forsythia is Brooklyn’s official flower. This one is really popping!Cherry trees frame a mausoleum near Fort Hamilton Parkway.An angel, framed by the branch of a white magnolia.There is more blooming out on Green-Wood’s grounds than trees and shrubs. Look up, but look down also. This is lamium purpureum.A white magnolia on Battle Hill provides a spectacular background for these sculptures.Cherry blossoms against a deep blue sky.Two cherry trees–one pink, one a white weeping cherry–blooming along Crescent Water.A bee, doing bee things, inspired by a white cherry.A pink magnolia makes this angel proud.This magnificent weeping cherry, along Battle Avenue, is always a great treat.And a bonus: as I was setting up a photograph of a nearby cherry tree, this woodpecker happened to attract my attention as it pecked away.
