DESCRIPTION:The Death Café is inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café)\, an informal gathering to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda. Tea and light snacks are provided. \n“A place for people to discuss our inevitable fate.” – Gothamist \n“It’s a reversal for American culture\, which for a long time has shied away from these conversations.” – Village Voice \n“[E]ncouraging people to talk about death more freely and naturally.” – Haaretz \nFree to attend\, RSVP recommended. Through carefully selected poetry and music\, we will share a beautiful series of rituals designed to heal and restore. \n \nThe evening will conclude with the lighting of memorial lanterns at sunset and launching them onto a tranquil pond. \n \nRemembrance is a unifying force when separation is validated and shared. Family members can attend this event together\, but anyone will find companionship with others in attendance. \n \nAll are welcome\, regardless of where loved ones are interred or memorialized. DESCRIPTION:Could you use a dose of audible kindness? Join us and let our soothing voices bring comfort and peace to you. This is not a concert; rather this is an opportunity to honor\, nurture\, and share space with community in contemplative and calming song. There’ll be a portion of time\, for those interested\, to join the singing. \nThreshold Choir of NYC (TCNYC) recognizes their 10 year anniversary in 2017 by sharing their songs with the public through community song circles\, and is honored to be a part of Green-Wood Cemetery’s Day of Remembrance. \nTCNYC is a secular group of women volunteers who\, upon invitation\, sing gently with two to four singers\, primarily at the bedsides of the seriously ill and dying (serving at hospices\, medical centers\, and private homes). We offer bedside singing as our gift at no charge. \nTCNYC is part of Threshold Choir\, an organization with chapters in over 150 communities around the world whose mission is to sing for and with those at the thresholds of life. \nFor more information about TCNYC\, email nyc@thresholdchoir.org. \nThis event is free. DESCRIPTION:The Death Café is inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café)\, an informal gathering to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda.
