But far from the grunting Hollywood brutishness of Boris Karloff\, the original told the heartbreaking story of a living\, feeling creature\, brought into the world only to be forsaken by his creator and left to fend for himself in a hostile world. Drawing the parallels to modern society\, pianist/composer Gregg Kallor will offer the World Premiere of a new suite of operatic sketches based on the monster’s harrowing tale\, in a partnership with On Site Opera. The program will also feature his other acclaimed vocal works\, and the premiere of a solo piano piece in tribute to Leonard Bernstein. \nThe Program: Kallor: Sketches from Frankenstein Suite (World Premiere)\, and other works \nMusic by Gregg Kallor \nDirected by Sarah Meyers\nLighting by Tláloc López-Watermann\nCostumes by Fay Eva \nThe Singers:\nJennifer Johnson Cano\, mezzo-soprano\nJoshua Jeremiah\, baritone\nBrian Cheney\, tenor \nThe Orchestra:\nGregg Kallor\, piano\nJoshua Roman\, cello \nThe Angel’s Share\, a new series of opera and chamber music concerts\, takes place in Green-Wood’s Catacombs. One of the oldest structures in the 478-acre National Historic Landmark Cemetery\, the Catacombs were built in the 1850s and are normally closed to the public. DESCRIPTION:The Death Café is inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café)\, an informal gathering to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda. DESCRIPTION:The Death Café is inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café)\, an informal gathering to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. DESCRIPTION:The Battle of Brooklyn\, fought in 1776 on land that is now a part of Green-Wood\, was the first battle of the American Revolution to be waged after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Green-Wood hosts a day of commemoration to honor all those who served to defend the young republic. See parades\, cannon fire\, horses\, and re-enactments. This is a great event for kids and families! \n(SOLD OUT) 10 – 11 a.m. – TROLLEY TOUR: Join author and historian Barnet Schecter and Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman for a tour of Green-Wood’s Revolutionary War-related sites. This is a separate\, ticketed tour\, not included in general registration for the Commemoration events. Please click here to join the waitlist. \n11 a.m. – LIFE ON THE BATTLEFIELD: Meet soldiers\, their horses\, and famous colonial Americans. Historic re-enactors will demonstrate revolutionary weapons and tactics. \n12:30 p.m. – BATTLE OF BROOKLYN PARADE: Grab a Revolutionary regiment flag\, wave it high\, and march to Battle Hill with The Regimental Band of the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Begins at the main gate. Free. \n1 p.m. – COMMEMORATION CEREMONY: Honor the spirit and heroes of the Battle of Brooklyn at this commemoration on Battle Hill\, overlooking New York Harbor.  \nThese events are free\, excluding the trolley tour\, but please register online so that we can gauge response. DESCRIPTION:The Death Café is inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café)\, an informal gathering to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda.
