Join Brooklyn-based expert florist Mindy Cardozo for an evening workshop to learn how to make your own wreath. Whether you’re super crafty or super klutzy\, Mindy will guide you through the process using a variety of wintry plants and materials. \n \nWhy are we making wreaths at Green-Wood? Wreaths are some of the most common motifs on monuments and mausoleums at Green-Wood. Also\, since the Victorian era\, it’s been a holiday tradition to adorn the gravesite of loved ones with evergreen wreaths. But regardless of where you’ll use your own wreath\, we celebrate the holiday spirit of coming together to design and create them. \n \nAll supplies are included\, as well as warm refreshments and seasonal treats. DESCRIPTION:Could you use a dose of audible kindness? Join us and let our soothing voices bring comfort and peace to you. This is not a concert; rather this is an opportunity to honor\, nurture\, and share space with community in contemplative and calming song. There’ll be a portion of time\, for those interested\, to join the singing. \nThreshold Choir of NYC (TCNYC) recognizes their 10 year anniversary in 2017 by sharing their songs with the public through community song circles\, and is honored to be a part of Green-Wood Cemetery’s Day of Remembrance. \nTCNYC is a secular group of women volunteers who\, upon invitation\, sing gently with two to four singers\, primarily at the bedsides of the seriously ill and dying (serving at hospices\, medical centers\, and private homes). We offer bedside singing as our gift at no charge. \nTCNYC is part of Threshold Choir\, an organization with chapters in over 150 communities around the world whose mission is to sing for and with those at the thresholds of life. \nFor more information about TCNYC\, email nyc@thresholdchoir.org. \nThis event is free. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the active time of day for birds. \nSummer Birding Sundays\nJune & July from 6-7:30am (except July 2nd)\,\nSundays August 6th & 20th from 6:30-8am\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring Cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. Be on the lookout for arriving Common Grackles\, nest building Red-tailed Hawks\, visiting American Woodcocks\, several species of waterfowl\, and the first appearances of Eastern Phoebes (a harbinger of the spring songbird migration). \nBirds of Early-Spring Migration\nSunday\, April 9\, 16\, 23\, & 30 at 6:30 AM\nOur April tours will be a feast for the ears and eyes with the trilling song of Pine Warblers and drumming pronouncements of Woodpeckers on newly blossoming trees (including magnolias\, maples\, quinces\, and dogwoods).
