Green-Wood in 3D

Wednesday, July 22, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Event Navigation

green-wood stereoview 3d

During the 1860s and 1870s, Green-Wood was a favorite site for professional photographers who were looking to take a break from the humdrum of shooting urban scenes to capture the Cemetery’s monuments and grounds. And they often did so using a popular nineteenth-century technique to create the appearance of three-dimensional images, producing photographs known as stereoviews. The Green-Wood Historic Fund has collected hundreds of these views. Join Historian Jeff Richman as he takes you on a tour of the Cemetery, pairing these 3D images of “then” with recent photographs of “now.” You’ll be able to sit in front of your computer wearing 3D glasses and experience the Green-Wood of 150 years ago!

PLEASE NOTE: Everyone who signs up for this program by the end of day on Tuesday, July 14, will be mailed a pair of 3D glasses. You will need these glasses to properly experience the program. When purchasing your ticket, please make sure that the home address you enter on Eventbrite is your mailing address.

This conversation is part of our new series of virtual programs about the history of Green-Wood and its permanent residents, Zooming in on History. On the day of the program, participants will receive a Zoom link and access code.

$5 / free for members.
