DESCRIPTION:With the New York Restoration Project\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUrban trees play an essential role in our City’s environmental resilience. That’s why each year\, the New York Restoration Project distributes thousands of native tree saplings to New York City residents through tree giveaway events across the five boroughs. This April\, they are coming to Green-Wood! In addition to tree saplings\, attendees can receive wild bergamot plants being given away by PlantXChange\, participate in creating seed bombs\, learn about the history of Turtle Island\, and discover how UPROSE is preparing Sunset Park for climate change through equitable community initiatives. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: All pre-registered trees for this event have been fully reserved. However\, walk-up recipients are welcome during the second hour of the giveaway\, starting at 11am. We typically have trees remaining for anyone who missed the chance to register in advance. All remaining trees will be distributed on a first-come\, first-served basis until supplies run out. \n\n\n\nAbout Our Partner Organizations: \n\n\n\nThe New York Restoration Project is an environmental justice nonprofit and citywide nature conservancy dedicated to preserving community gardens and other green spaces. As the lead organization for this event\, NYRP works to ensure all New Yorkers have equitable access to green space. Learn more about NYRP here. \n\n\n\nPlantxChange (@plantxchange)cultivates and distributes plants while providing education on social justice\, Indigenous stewardship\, and botany. Their workshops and resources are intentionally crafted by and for QTBIPOC community members\, fostering inclusive and accessible learning spaces. PlantxChange empowers individuals to become environmental stewards and community leaders who can share knowledge and support transformative movement building. \n\n\n\nUPROSE (@uprosebrooklyn)\, founded in 1966\, is Brooklyn’s oldest Latino-founded community organization. This intergenerational\, multiracial\, nationally-recognized grassroots organization works at the intersection of social justice and climate change. UPROSE advocates for Sunset Park residents’ access to clean air\, clean water\, open space\, quality education\, and culturally-grounded arts. To prepare the neighborhood for climate crisis impacts\, UPROSE offers CPR\, Stop The Bleed\, and de-escalation trainings\, workshops on native plants\, and hosts Salsa and Bomba classes among other community initiatives.

April brings pine warblers\, woodpeckers\, and thousands of migrating songbirds among the blooming magnolias and dogwoods\, while herons gather at the glacial ponds.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, $16 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nMay and early June offer peak birding with over 163 species passing through\, including ruby-throated hummingbirds and wood warblers. Summer sees young red-tailed hawks taking flight\, along with abundant butterflies and dragonflies.
