Green-Wood’s official birding checklist will be made available to all attendees\, or you can print it in advance here. \n\n\n\nAnd depending when you stop by\, you may see a variety of different species passing through: \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, $15 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nEarly Spring Migration (April) \n\n\n\nOur April tours will be a feast for the ears and eyes with the trilling song of pine warblers and drumming pronouncements of woodpeckers on newly blossoming trees (including magnolias\, maples\, quinces\, and dogwoods). We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. DESCRIPTION:A Installation by Adam Tendler\n\n\n\n\n\nCredit: Walter Wlodarczyk\n\n\n\n\n\nJune 1- August 25\, 2024Saturdays and Sundays11am-4pm (or by appointment)Fort Hamilton Gatehouse \n\n\n\nExit Strategy is a site specific installation in Green-Wood’s Fort Hamilton Gatehouse created by the Cemetery’s 2023-2024 artist in residence\, Adam Tendler. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free.  \n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person Event(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nInterrogating the complex relationship between grief and personal identity\, Tendler creates an immersive environment that meditates on the ways we attach ourselves to memories and physical objects\, and the possibilities for letting them go. Layering music\, text\, visuals\, and found objects\, this semi-autobiographical work includes notes\, voice memos\, and personal objects sourced from the local Green-Wood community. At the conclusion of the installation\, the accumulated items will be ritualistically discarded as part of a closing ceremony. \n\n\n\nAdam Tendler\, Green-Wood’s third artist in residence\, is a New York based pianist and author. He is recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists and the 2022 Yvar Mikhashoff Prize\, and a Yamaha Artist. He is an internationally recognized interpreter of living\, modern\, and classical composers and a pioneer of DIY culture in concert music. At the conclusion of the installation\, the accumulated items will be ritualistically discarded as part of a closing ceremony. \n\n\n\nAdam Tendler\, Green-Wood’s third artist in residence\, is a New York based pianist and author. He is recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists and the 2022 Yvar Mikhashoff Prize\, and a Yamaha Artist. He is an internationally recognized interpreter of living\, modern\, and classical composers and a pioneer of DIY culture in concert music. We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. Gatto and artist Mary Pat Klein as they bring together creativity and contemplation with an evening of crafting. \n\n\n\nIf you like to knit\, crochet\, or engage in another kind of crafting—artists of all kinds are welcome—Grieving & Weaving is for you. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. As we create together\, we’ll talk about the significance of handmade items in both our personal and collective histories. Feel free to bring a handmade item you’d like to share with the group or a story about a family item—maybe a blanket\, article of clothing\, or toy—that’s been passed down generation after generation. \n\n\n\nAll skill levels are welcome\, from beginners to experts! Mary Pat will lead a tutorial for newcomers in both knitting and crocheting\, while those at intermediate and expert levels are encouraged to bring their ongoing projects. Feel free to bring your own yarn\, needles\, and hooks; some materials will be available on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n\n\n\nMary Pat Klein is a highly skilled and renowned yarn craftsperson. Her knit creations have graced television screens\, print ads\, and Broadway stages. Her works have been featured on The Today Show and Guiding Light\, as well as Broadway productions including Frozen\, A View From a Bridge\, Present Laughter\, and the stage adaptation of Mrs. Doubtfire\, for which she crafted the iconic blue sweater. Collaborating closely with Tony Award-winning costume designers\, Mary Pat has custom crafted blankets\, sweaters\, hats\, throw pillows\, and an array of unique items. \n\n\n\nFree. DESCRIPTION:A Installation by Adam Tendler\n\n\n\n\n\nCredit: Walter Wlodarczyk\n\n\n\n\n\nJune 1- August 25\, 2024Saturdays and Sundays11am-4pm (or by appointment)Fort Hamilton Gatehouse \n\n\n\nExit Strategy is a site specific installation in Green-Wood’s Fort Hamilton Gatehouse created by the Cemetery’s 2023-2024 artist in residence\, Adam Tendler. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free.  \n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person Event(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nInterrogating the complex relationship between grief and personal identity\, Tendler creates an immersive environment that meditates on the ways we attach ourselves to memories and physical objects\, and the possibilities for letting them go. Layering music\, text\, visuals\, and found objects\, this semi-autobiographical work includes notes\, voice memos\, and personal objects sourced from the local Green-Wood community. At the conclusion of the installation\, the accumulated items will be ritualistically discarded as part of a closing ceremony. \n\n\n\nAdam Tendler\, Green-Wood’s third artist in residence\, is a New York based pianist and author. He is recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists and the 2022 Yvar Mikhashoff Prize\, and a Yamaha Artist. He is an internationally recognized interpreter of living\, modern\, and classical composers and a pioneer of DIY culture in concert music.
