SUMMARY:Birding in Peace
DESCRIPTION:Before our gates open to the general public\, birding expert Rob Jett leads these peaceful early morning walking tours to discover the many birds that make Green-Wood their home—at least temporarily.  \n\n\n\nDepending on when you stop by\, you may see a variety of different species passing through. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, and $15 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nBy September\, offspring of summer’s nesting birds will be on their own. Returning warblers will be in their less flamboyant fall plumage. Large numbers of blackbirds\, flycatchers\, sparrows\, vireos\, and swallows will also be passing through. By October\, we’ll be on the lookout for returning waterfowl and raptors heading south. November will bring back our overwintering feathered denizens from the north. \n\n\n\nAll walks are at a slow pace on easy to moderate terrain\, but proper\, closedtoe footwear is suggested. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\n\nAttendees must follow ALL instructions and guidance from Cemetery staff and ambassadors.\n\n\n\nTickets: There is no need to print tickets! Attendees will be checked in by name.\n\n\n\nWhere To Go: Check-in takes place at the meadow near the Main Entrance at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street).\n\n\n\nFor Your Safety: We strongly encourage attendees to wear suitable footwear. The route includes several steep hills\, some stairs\, as well as grassy and uneven terrain. There is no place to sit down during the tour. Due to the challenging nature of the route\, this tour is not ADA compliant and is not recommended for children under the age of 10.\n\n\n\nA Little More About Safety: Unless it is a medical emergency\, it is not possible to leave during the tour. Please consider your own abilities–as well as those in your party–before purchasing tickets.\n\n\n\nRefunds and exchanges: Ticket sales are final. No exchanges or refunds unless the tour is canceled. If a rain date is scheduled\, tickets will be honored only on that date.\n\n\n\nInclement Weather Policy: We monitor the weather throughout the day for the best chance of proceeding with the tour\, and will not make a final decision until at least 3 hours before the start of the tour. Cancellations will be announced via Eventbrite email blasts\, so check your email and spam folders.\n\n\n\nFeeling Sick? Stay home if you are feeling sick or running a fever.\n\n\n\n\nNot a Member?\n\n\n\nClick here for all of our membership levels and information. \n\n\n\nAlready a Member?\n\n\n\nClick the gray tickets button to activate the Eventbrite pop-up\, then click Enter promo code. SUMMARY:Commemorating the Boston Tea Party
DESCRIPTION:A Dedication at the Grave of Ebenezer Stevens\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn this date\, 250 years ago\, American colonists dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor in protest of taxes imposed by Great Britain. This act of defiance was a significant turning point that helped to trigger the American Revolution. In commemoration of what became known as the Boston Tea Party\, we will walk in a procession\, led by the Color Guard of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and accompanied by a drummer and a fifer\, from Green-Wood’s Main Entrance Arch to the grave of Ebenezer Stevens. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFree. No registration required. \n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person Event\n\n\n\n\n\nStevens was the only participant of the Boston Tea Party interred in New York City and commanded the triumphant Continental Artillery at the Revolutionary War Battles of Saratoga and Yorktown. In honor of Stevens’ bravery\, we will unveil a Boston Tea Party commemorative marker at his gravesite accompanied by music and musket volleys\, part of an initiative of The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum and Revolution 360\, a consortium of organizations working together to commemorate the 250th anniversaries of the events that led to the American Revolution. We will also place a Patriot Medallion provided by the Sons of the American Revolution. Green-Wood Historian Jeff Richman will offer remarks on the life and legacy of Ebenezer Stevens and Historian Barnet Schecter will speak on the historical importance of the Boston Tea Party.  \n\n\n\nThis event is free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Birding in Peace
DESCRIPTION:Before our gates open to the general public\, birding expert Rob Jett leads these peaceful early morning walking tours to discover the many birds that call Green-Wood home. \n\n\n\nJust because it’s winter\, doesn’t mean that there aren’t interesting birds to discover in Green-Wood. For some bird species that migrate south after the breeding season\, Brooklyn is their Miami during the cold months. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, and $15 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nSpend the early morning exploring the cemetery\, looking for overwintering waterfowl\, nuthatches\, woodpeckers\, sparrows\, finches and any half-hardy birds that decided to stick around. By February we’ll see some of the early north-bound birds beginning to trickle back into the area. \n\n\n\nAll walks are at a slow pace on easy to moderate terrain\, but proper\, closed toe footwear is suggested. \n\n\n\nPlease note that if only 1 ticket shows as available during the purchase process that is the last ticket available. As dogs\, cats\, parakeets\, gerbils\, lizards\, and goldfish have shorter lives\, loving and caring for them in both youth and old age can be transformational in our own relationships with death\, teaching us important lessons about how to find meaning in life. \n\n\n\nAt this edition of Things that Matter\, we’re focusing on the furry\, scaly\, and feathered friends who bring so much joy to our lives. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. Registration required. \n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVirtual EventA Zoom link will be in your confirmation email upon registration.\n\n\n\n\n\nWe invite you to join us and share the stories of your pets through those objects that you hold dear. You can bring collars and leashes\, photographs\, favorite toys and blankets\, or any object that reminds you of your pet. \n\n\n\nThings that Matter (formerly known as Show & Tale) with Martie McNabb is like Antiques Roadshow but with storytelling\, or a Death Cafe turned Pinterest board. Everyone is welcome to join in—just bring an object of your choosing and share your story about loss. No judges\, no prizes\, no pressure. And no need to practice! Just want to come and listen? Awesome! Observers are always welcome. \n\n\n\nMartie McNabb is a personal historian and artist who creates visual narratives from client’s photo\, document\, and memorabilia archives. She’s also an interactive story-sharing heartist who helps people create connections by holding space for them to share the stories about the things they keep. \n\n\n\nFree. Registration required. Please consider a donation to the Green-Wood Historic Fund so that we can continue to offer free and low-cost programs throughout the year.
