The ceremony will bring together the NTLM team\, community partners and the public for a dedication and activation of the memorial that will include a procession from the Main Entrance Arch to the Chapel; drummers representing the five city boroughs; a libation; folk singers from Jewish\, African\, African American and Garifuna traditions; and a participatory ritual of remembrance and naming the losses New Yorkers have suffered over the past three years. We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. We welcome back the talented high-school musicians of the ISO at Third Street Symphonic Band\, led by music director Paul Corn and hosted by guest conductor Brian P. Worsdale. \n\n\n\nEach year we feature works that commemorate those who served in the armed forces throughout our nation’s history\, while also highlighting music by some of Green-Wood’s permanent residents\, including James Weldon Johnson\, Fred Ebb\, and Leonard Bernstein. This year’s repertoire will also include works by a diverse range of contemporary composers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free.
