DESCRIPTION:Just because it’s winter\, doesn’t mean that there aren’t interesting birds to discover in Green-Wood. For some bird species that migrate south after the breeding season\, Brooklyn is their Miami during the cold months. Spend the early morning exploring the cemetery\, looking for overwintering waterfowl\, nuthatches\, woodpeckers\, sparrows\, finches and any half-hardy birds that decided to stick around. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, and $15 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nBy February we’ll see some of the early north-bound birds beginning to trickle back into the area. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing Your Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\nCOVID-19 Policy: In accordance with New York State and CDC guidance\, masks are optional. Otake is interested in communing with and surveying the physical and emotional traces of the deceased. \n\n\n\nIn Mother\, through videos and sculpture\, Otake talks to and dances with her mother\, who died in 2019. It is one daughter and her mother’s personal story. The artist\, however\, hopes viewers have an opportunity to contemplate their own maternal bonds\, as well as the diverse yet common connection to a mother that “links us all to the distant past.” Green-Wood’s Historic Chapel is a poignant setting for Mother\, as for over a century it has provided many with a place for such reflection.  \n\n\n\nMother is curated by Harry Weil\, Green-Wood’s Vice President of Education and Public Programs. Iris McCloughan aided in the installation’s creation as a dramaturg. Mother includes two videos created in 2019 soon after Otake’s mother passed away\, as well as photo prints and objects. The video of the artist speaking is excerpted from “Elegies\,” made in collaboration with John Killacky and Brian Stevenson. DESCRIPTION:Just because it’s winter\, doesn’t mean that there aren’t interesting birds to discover in Green-Wood. For some bird species that migrate south after the breeding season\, Brooklyn is their Miami during the cold months. Spend the early morning exploring the cemetery\, looking for overwintering waterfowl\, nuthatches\, woodpeckers\, sparrows\, finches and any half-hardy birds that decided to stick around. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, and $15 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nBy February we’ll see some of the early north-bound birds beginning to trickle back into the area. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing Your Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\nCOVID-19 Policy: In accordance with New York State and CDC guidance\, masks are optional. Join Sara Evans\, senior manager and curator of living collections\, on a hunt for spotted lanternfly egg masses on the trees in Green-Wood.  \n\n\n\nSince 2014\, the spotted lanternfly\, a planthopper native to Asia\, has been spreading and establishing throughout the eastern United States. Because they lack significant natural predators in the area\, their population is expanding unchecked. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. Registration required.  \n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person Event(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nAs spotted lanternflies feed on trees and vines\, they add stress to the plants\, and can even kill several species\, including tree-of-heaven. Removing egg masses before they hatch is a surefire way to manage their population and reduce stress on our urban forest! \n\n\n\nJoin us to learn how to identify\, safely remove\, and effectively discard egg masses\, while learning about the life cycles and documenting the egg-laying habits of the spotted lanternfly. \n\n\n\nAnd remember that you can slow the spread of spotted lanternfly by checking that your vehicle and firewood is free of egg masses or nymphs before traveling with it out of state.  \n\n\n\nFree. DESCRIPTION:Batter up! To kick off the 2023 season\, we welcome baseball historian Tom Gilbert\, along with Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman\, for a tour of Green-Wood’s ball-playing pioneers. On this trolley tour you’ll visit the monuments and gravesites of Henry Chadwick\, the “Father of Baseball\,” who invented the game’s scoring system; James Creighton\, baseball’s first national star; Charles Ebbets\, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers; and many others who played a role in making baseball America’s national pastime. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $30\, and $25 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrolley Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\nCOVID-19 Policy: In accordance with New York State and CDC guidance\, masks are optional. We strongly encourage attendees to wear suitable footwear. Due to the nature and length of the route\, this tour is not recommended for children under the age of 10.A Little More About Safety: Unless it is a medical emergency\, it is not possible to leave the tour early.Refunds and exchanges: Ticket sales are final.
