SUMMARY:Birding in Peace
DESCRIPTION:Credit: Evan Rabeck\n\n\n\nBefore our gates open to the general public\, birding expert Rob Jett leads these peaceful Sunday morning walking tours to discover the birds that make Green-Wood their home—at least temporarily. By September\, offspring of these nesting birds will be on their own. Returning warblers will be in their less flamboyant fall plumage. Large numbers of blackbirds\, flycatchers\, sparrows\, vireos\, and swallows will also be passing through. By October\, waterfowl are returning\, and we’ll look for raptors heading south. November will bring back our overwintering feathered denizens from the north. \n\n\n\n\n\nTickets are $20/$15 for members. There are no paper or e-tickets. SUMMARY:Ins & Outs of Physically Returning to Work
DESCRIPTION:The newest and most recognized acronym of the pandemic is WFH (work from home).  For many\, that means relinquishing a daily commute to work\, abandoning business dress code and succumbing to noise from loud kids and barking dogs in the background during virtual call meetings.  For the most part\, those days are winding down\, companies are setting protocol for physically returning to work.  While most welcome the interaction with co-workers\, the pandemic has changed comfort levels being in close proximity of others and frankly many have embraced the freedom of working from home.  The reality is as a nation\, the workplace is re-opening.  Join in on an informative discussion of how to navigate the ins and outs of returning to work following unprecedented circumstances. \n\n\n\nThe conversation will be led by Rachel Kodanaz\, author of Grief in the Workplace: A comprehensive guide for being prepared\, Living with Loss One Day at a Time\, Finding Peace One Piece at a Time: What to do with yours and a loved one’s possessions. \n\n\n\n\n\nFree\, suggested donation $10. Please consider a donation to Green-Wood when reserving your ticket. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\nGet Tickets on Eventbrite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour donation will help ensure that we can continue to provide engaging and thought provoking programs at little or no cost to you. A Zoom link will be in your confirmation email upon registration.

DESCRIPTION:Simone Dinnerstein\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTHE LONG STORY\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\nGet Tickets on Eventbrite\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver the course of the pandemic shutdown\, internationally-renowned pianist Simone Dinnerstein took refuge in long walks through Green-Wood. Now\, she brings her searching artistry to The Angel’s Share in a one-of-a-kind performance that will see her guiding audiences across the Cemetery\, pausing periodically to perform on several Yamaha pianos that will be scattered throughout the route. \n\n\n\nDinnerstein will perform a deeply-relevant new piece written for her by Richard Danielpour\, entitled An American Mosaic. Each movement of the work commemorates a different segment of the American population that’s been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic\, including first responders\, parents\, caretakers\, and those who have lost their lives to the virus. Inspired and comforted by Dinnerstein’s Bach recordings throughout the pandemic\, Danielpour also composed three Bach transcriptions to accompany An American Mosaic. \n\n\n\nThe program will open with Joseph Phillips’ Never Has Been Yet\, where Dinnerstein will be joined by American radio personality Robin Quivers\, reciting from the Langston Hughes poem “Let America Be America Again.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Short Story\n\n\n\nEven by our standards\, this is an utterly unique fusion of music and location\, with one of America’s most soulful\, thoughtful musicians helping us to reckon with the events of the past year. \n\n\n\n$60\, no member discount available. There are no paper or e-tickets. Attendees will be checked in by name. Click here for our inclement weather policy. \n\n\n\nImportant things to note before purchasing your tickets\n\n\n\nAttendees must provide proof of vaccination. SUMMARY:After the End
DESCRIPTION:A Ritual ABOUT LOSS by Candy Chang and James A. Reeves\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSEPTEMBER 15TH-DECEMBER 6TH\, 10AM-4:30PMHistoric ChapelFree\n\n\n\nDescribe your loss. This simple prompt will be asked of each visitor to After the End\, a new site-specific installation in Green-Wood’s Historic Chapel. Influenced in equal parts by religious ceremonies and science fiction\, artists Candy Chang and James A. Reeves have created a public ritual to contemplate loss in all forms: the loss of loved ones\, relationships\, health\, and worlds we once knew—as well as the practices that have helped us endure. Visitors are invited to share their experience on a scroll and place it upon an illuminated altar. Lit from within\, each response becomes a devotional candle\, and together they form an evolving field of light. Selected reflections will be projected throughout the Chapel\, and visitors can sit in the apse to contemplate the experiences of others as well as their own. After the End offers a modern refuge that reminds us we are not alone as we mourn the end of one reality and enter the next. \n\n\n\nFor over a decade\, Chang and Reeves have collaborated on public rituals to contemplate the human condition. Their installations have been exhibited at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City\, the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles\, and the Mural Arts Program in Philadelphia. Inspired by the devotional practices of religion\, the ancient I Ching\, and cyberpunk visions\, Chang and Reeves create public works that facilitate conversations about reckoning with an increasingly alienating world. To learn more\, visit ritualfields.com. \n\n\n\nAfter the End was made possible by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. \n\n\n\nDue to the overwhelming popular response to After the End\, the installation has now been extended through December 6th! \n\n\n\nFree and open to the public\, no reservations are necessary. Please consider a donation to The Green-Wood Historic Fund so that we can continue to offer free and low-cost programs throughout the year.

SUMMARY:Death Café
DESCRIPTION:The Death Café is inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café)\, an informal gathering to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought this concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 4\,400 Death Cafes in 26 countries around the world. \nGreen-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda. Tea and light snacks are provided. \n“A place for people to discuss our inevitable fate.” – Gothamist \n“It’s a reversal for American culture\, which for a long time has shied away from these conversations.” – Village Voice \n“[E]ncouraging people to talk about death more freely and naturally.” – Haaretz \nFree to attend\, RSVP recommended. Please register using the Eventbrite box below. \nThis program takes place in our Modern Chapel just to the right after passing through the Gothic Arches at the main entrance. All events will take place rain or shine. Click here for our inclement weather policy. \n \nMobile users: Please tap here for free registration.\n
