Over the span of their careers\, Currier and Ives produced more than seven thousand prints that sold in the millions of copies. At one time\, 95 percent of all lithographs in circulation in the United States were from the firm of Currier & Ives. Nathaniel Currier and James Merritt Ives are both interred at Green-Wood. \nJoin Robert K. Newman\, a third-generation owner of the Old Print Shop on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan and expert on Currier & Ives\, for an in-depth look at this legendary team. Marge\, a professional singer\, has been a volunteer since 2002 with The Green-Wood Historic Fund’s Civil War Project and has helped to staff The Historic Fund’s information and sales cart since its inception. She has been known to break into an occasional song during her tours. \nA Brooklyn native\, Ruth Edebohls is a licensed New York City tour guide and urban historian with a special enthusiasm for Green-Wood Cemetery. After working for the Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment as its Coordinator of Urban Tours and as a tour guide for 15 years\, Ruth became a tour guide for the Green-Wood Historic Fund several years ago. She has created and led a host of fascinating tours of Green-Wood. \nAfter retiring from many years of teaching\, Tom Russell became a volunteer at Green-Wood in 2003\, greeting visitors and answering their questions. As the sun sets on 478 spectacular acres\, you’ll weave through stunning landscapes and visit the graves of prominent figures in New York and American culture. \nAfter the walking tour\, enjoy drinks\, light refreshments and live accordion music in the cemetery. DESCRIPTION: \n \nThe Battle of Brooklyn\, fought in August 1776 on land that is now a part of Green-Wood Cemetery\, was the first battle of the American Revolution to be waged after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. In memory of the brave patriots who battled for our country’s independence\, The Green-Wood Historic Fund hosts a day of free commemoration ceremonies and trolley tours. This is a great event for kids and families! \nGreen-Wood is honored to host The Regimental Band of the United States Merchant Marine Academy\, which will play during the Battle of Brooklyn Parade and also at the Commemorative Ceremony. \n10:00 AM – TROLLEY TOUR (THIS TOUR IS SOLD OUT): Join author Barnet Schecter and Green-Wood historian Jeff Richman. \n12:30 PM – REVOLUTIONARY WAR RE-ENACTORS: Takes place in Green-Wood’s Meadow at the Gothic Arch. FREE. \n1:30 PM – BATTLE OF BROOKLYN PARADE: Meet at the main gate for a parade to Battle Hill. FREE. \n2:00 PM – BATTLE OF BROOKLYN COMMEMORATIVE CEREMONY: The ceremony will take place on Battle Hill. Please note that the rescheduled events will begin an hour earlier than the original time – please make a note of this on your voucher. \nOnly Thursday July 26th vouchers will be accepted on Thursday\, the 30th. Only Saturday July 28th vouchers will be accepted on August  25th. Just bring your Living Social voucher (and a flashlight!) with you on the corresponding day. If you are unable to attend your rescheduled event\, please email chelseadowell@green-wood.com. \nThere are few places more atmospheric than a cemetery at dusk – and Green-Wood is top notch when it comes to beauty and atmosphere. Normally in operation only during daylight hours\, this special event will lead you on a twilight tour of the expansive grounds. As the sun sets on 478 spectacular acres\, you’ll weave through stunning landscapes and visit the graves of prominent figures in New York and American culture. \nAfter the walking tour\, enjoy drinks\, light refreshments and live accordion music in the cemetery.
