Through extensive onsite research into the public burial lots around the Cemetery’s perimeter and the meticulous crafting of works in marble and glass\, Renee investigates how race and class influence memorialization. \n\n\n\nHistorically\, public lots at Green-Wood offered more affordable burial sites for the working class and poor. Many are located near the Cemetery’s perimeter\, where land was seen as less valuable because of its proximity to city streets. Green-Wood’s “A Day in the Life” series brings together industry professionals for lively conversations on the intricacies of their trade and to answer your burning questions about the field of end-of-life care. \n\n\n\nEveryday\, we look in the mirror and prepare ourselves\, but who will we trust for our final reflection of our personal physical identity when our time comes? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. She’ll share the various restorative techniques she uses and how she manages to achieve a natural appearance\, despite a variety of ways a person may die\, including “traumatic deaths.” We’ll take a look at up-close examples of Amanda’s work and afterwards\, we’ll have an engaging Q & A session—so bring your curiosity and questions! \n\n\n\nAmanda Marie Eilis King\, CFSP\, is a licensed embalmer and funeral director with extensive training in postmortem reconstructive work. She is also an educator who specializes in and teaches reconstructive work and cosmetic application. Currently she is a funeral director and embalmer for B.C. We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. Through extensive onsite research into the public burial lots around the Cemetery’s perimeter and the meticulous crafting of works in marble and glass\, Renee investigates how race and class influence memorialization. \n\n\n\nHistorically\, public lots at Green-Wood offered more affordable burial sites for the working class and poor. Many are located near the Cemetery’s perimeter\, where land was seen as less valuable because of its proximity to city streets. They have received awards from the Aaron Siskind Foundation\, the Harpo Foundation and the Jerome Hill Foundation. DESCRIPTION:Join our expert tour guides aboard our temperature-controlled trolley to explore Green-Wood’s historic landscape and some of its most fascinating permanent residents. If you have never been to the Cemetery this is your opportunity to discover its 478 acres of art\, history\, and nature! You will tread where George Washington and his troops fought in the Battle of Brooklyn\, visit the grave of one of America’s greatest artists\, and much more. \n\n\n\nPlease note that if only 1 ticket shows as available during the purchase process that is the last ticket available. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $30\, and $25 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrolley Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\n\nCOVID-19 Policy: Attendees MUST wear a face covering at all times on the trolley\, regardless of vaccine status\, and follow instructions and guidance from Cemetery staff and ambassadors.\n\n\n\nTickets: There are no paper or e-tickets! Attendees will be checked in by name.\n\n\n\nWhere To Go: Check-in takes place at the Historic Chapel near the Main Entrance at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street).\n\n\n\nFor Your Safety: This tour includes climbing stairs and walking on grassy and uneven terrain. We strongly encourage attendees to wear suitable footwear. Due to the nature and length of the route\, this tour is not recommended for children under the age of 10.\n\n\n\nA Little More About Safety: Unless it is a medical emergency\, it is not possible to leave the tour early.\n\n\n\nRefunds and exchanges: Ticket sales are final. No exchanges or refunds unless the tour is canceled.\n\n\n\nInclement Weather Policy: We monitor the weather throughout the day for the best chance of proceeding with the tour\, and will not make a final decision until at least 3 hours before the start of the tour.
