Green-Wood’s official birding checklist will be made available to all attendees\, or you can print it in advance here. \n\n\n\nAnd depending when you stop by\, you may see a variety of different species passing through: \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20\, $15 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nEarly Spring Migration (April) \n\n\n\nOur April tours will be a feast for the ears and eyes with the trilling song of pine warblers and drumming pronouncements of woodpeckers on newly blossoming trees (including magnolias\, maples\, quinces\, and dogwoods). We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. At the conclusion of the installation\, the accumulated items will be ritualistically discarded as part of a closing ceremony. \n\n\n\nAdam Tendler\, Green-Wood’s third artist in residence\, is a New York based pianist and author. He is recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists and the 2022 Yvar Mikhashoff Prize\, and a Yamaha Artist. He is an internationally recognized interpreter of living\, modern\, and classical composers and a pioneer of DIY culture in concert music. At the conclusion of the installation\, the accumulated items will be ritualistically discarded as part of a closing ceremony. \n\n\n\nAdam Tendler\, Green-Wood’s third artist in residence\, is a New York based pianist and author. He is recipient of the Lincoln Center Award for Emerging Artists and the 2022 Yvar Mikhashoff Prize\, and a Yamaha Artist. He is an internationally recognized interpreter of living\, modern\, and classical composers and a pioneer of DIY culture in concert music. We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. We’ll discover thousands of songbirds resting before their trip farther north as well as arriving herons and egrets at Green-Wood’s glacial ponds. \n\n\n\nPeak Spring Migration (May to mid-June) \n\n\n\nFrom ruby-throated hummingbirds to over twenty species of colorful wood warblers\, our peak migration tours will feature many of the 163 bird species that have been recorded at Green-Wood during the month of May. Beginning just after sunrise\, we will experience spring’s dawn chorus at the most active time of day for birds. \n\n\n\nSummer Birding (Late June to August) \n\n\n\nIn July we should see the offspring of our resident red-tailed hawk bravely preparing to leave the nest. Warbler songs will be replaced by chirring cicadas and the tweets of fledgling birds. Butterflies and dragonflies are abundant. DESCRIPTION:Join our beekeeper\, Nick Hoefly\, for an onsite exploration of Green-Wood’s beehives! Get an “in-hive” look at the incredible behaviors of honey bees\, from colony workings\, to gathering nectar\, to producing honey. You’ll discover what it takes to be a beekeeper as you learn about hive tending and the ancient process of harvesting honey. Prepare to be amazed by these industrious creatures and the artistry and science of beekeeping! \n\n\n\nProtective gear will be provided\, but this event may not be suitable for those with bee sting allergies.  \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $20 for members\, $30 for non-member guests \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWalking Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipants will need to sign a safety and liability waiver at the start of the tour in order to participate. This event is intended for adults\, but kids 10 and up may attend with a legal guardian who can sign the waiver on the minor’s behalf. Tickets are required for all participants\, including kids. \n\n\n\nCurrent 2024 season Beehive Sponsors are eligible for tickets to this tour. Please email contactus@green-wood.com to get access to tickets (limit 2 per sponsorship). Location: Meet by the Arch at our Main Entrance (Fifth Avenue &25th Street) to check in. The group will then walk to the beehives with our beekeeper. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\n\nAttendees must follow ALL instructions and guidance from Cemetery staff and ambassadors.\n\n\n\nTickets: There is no need to print tickets! Attendees will be checked in by name.\n\n\n\nWhere To Go: Check-in takes place at the Arch near the Main Entrance at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street).\n\n\n\nFor Your Safety: We strongly encourage attendees to wear suitable footwear. The route includes hills as well as grassy and uneven terrain. There is no place to sit down during the tour. Due to the challenging nature of the route\, this tour is not ADA compliant and is not recommended for children under the age of 10.\n\n\n\nA Little More About Safety: Unless it is a medical emergency\, it is not possible to leave during the tour. Please consider your own abilities–as well as those in your party–before purchasing tickets.\n\n\n\nRefunds and exchanges: Ticket sales are final. No exchanges or refunds unless the tour is canceled. If a rain date is scheduled\, tickets will be honored only on that date.\n\n\n\nInclement Weather Policy: We monitor the weather throughout the day for the best chance of proceeding with the tour\, and will not make a final decision until at least 3 hours before the start of the tour.
