Five of them had died in the war; the sixth\, who had been sent to Mexico by New York City’s Common Council to retrieve the bodies of the others\, died of disease on his way back. A large lot was devoted to their burial and a suitable monument to their sacrifice was to be placed at its center. But that never happened and their graves were never marked. Now\, 164 years later\, each of them will finally have a memorial.
