DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 22\, 2011\nJoin The Brooklyn Historical Society for a panel discussion of two of Brooklyn’s historic cemeteries — Green-Wood (which is a National Historic Landmark) and the Evergreens. The panel includes Green-Wood Cemetery President Rich Moylan and Evergreens Cemetery President Paul Grassi\, as well as authors who have written definitive histories of each cemetery — Jeffrey Richman\, author of “Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery: New York’s Buried Treasure”\, and John Rousmaniere\, author of “Green Oasis in Brooklyn: The Evergreens Cemetery 1849-2008”. The museum will remain open until 7pm. This program is open to the public and free with museum admission. Playwright Tom Andolora of Brooklyn College has adapted the classic American work by Edgar Lee Masters for the stage and directs the production as well.  \nIMPORTANT: \n\nFor mature audiences only. Admission is restricted to ages 15 and over.\nNo alcohol or food is permitted in the cemetery.\nPlease arrive at Green-Wood’s main entrance (25th Street and Fifth Avenue) by 11:00 p.m. sharp. All ticket holders will then travel by Green-Wood trolley to the Catacombs in the middle of the cemetery. They’ll have a chance to tour\, and learn about\, the Catacombs which are no longer open to the public. Ticket holders will then travel by trolley to the site of the performance. \nAudience members must board the trolley to travel to the site of the play. Join musicians\, singers and re-enactors for a chance to hear Civil War melodies and talk with historians well-versed in the stories of the Civil War. We’ll have an 11-piece brass band\, fiddlers and singers on hand for this overture to the Grand Procession. \n8:15 PM GRAND PROCESSION. Led by cavalry\, our procession will wind through our historic grounds and past more than 4\,500 candlelit graves of Civil War veterans\, guarded by uniformed re-enactors and serenaded by musicians and singers. \nBEFORE AND AFTER THE PROCESSION: View our Civil War exhibition “Honoring Their Sacrifice” in the Historic Chapel; visit the Union and Confederate encampments where re-enactors will share historical details and stories of the Civil War. \nTickets are $10 per person or $25 for families (one or two adults and up to four children) in advance\, and $15/$30 at the door. Tours last approximately two hours and feature the beauty of  Green-Wood’s grounds\, the Cemetery’s history\, its bird life\, the most  fascinating tales of its permanent residents\, views of Manhattan’s  skyline\, The Green-Wood Historic Fund’s Civil War Project and its  preservation program\, and more. The trolley is heated\, air conditioned\, and enclosed. \nThis will be a Far Side of Green-Wood tour. Click here to purchase advance tickets online. \nGreen-Wood’s Wednesday Trolley tour guide\, Marge Raymond\, fell in love with Green-Wood Cemetery 25 years ago as a birdwatcher and naturalist. She brings to her tours her enthusiasm and passion for  Green-Wood’s famous residents\, its history\, trees and animals. Marge\, a  professional singer\, has been a volunteer since 2002 with The Green-Wood  Historic Fund’s Civil War Project and has helped to staff The Historic  Fund’s information and sales cart since its inception. She has been  known to break into an occasional song during her tours. \nMeeting Point: Inside Main Entrance at 25th Street and 5th Avenue

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 30\, 2011\nGreen-Wood Cherry Tree\, AMC Logo\nIn April\, Green-Wood is a walker’s paradise. For the past four years\, members of the Appalachian Mountain Club have toured through Green-Wood\, marveling at our 150-year old trees\, lakes\, winding carriage paths and vistas. For the first time\, we’re making this tour available to the general public. Led by Steven Estroff\, Green-Wood’s Manager of Education & Outreach\, you’ll visit Battle Hill\, the highest natural point in Brooklyn with views of New York Harbor\, and get to see and interpret the sites of such New York favorites as DeWitt Clinton\, Leonard Bernstein and Henry Chadwick (“The Father of Baseball”). \n$10 for Green-Wood Historic Fund members / $15 for non-members.
