Despite its title\, it’s a work of fiction narrated by a light-skinned Black man who decides to forge a new identity in twentieth-century America. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. LaTocha was inspired by the Cemetery as a site for memory and mourning that is also an oasis with an abundant collection of mature trees\, thriving wildlife populations\, and steeped in geological history. The new works are made from trees that once grew at Green-Wood and are cloaked in thin sheets of lead\, a material historically used in coffins to slow decomposition\, in an allusion to the natural decay of all things.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. In February\, 2021\, we launched our World War II Project to preserve the stories of these people. DESCRIPTION:Credit: Xavier Hadley\n\n\n\n\n\nGreen-Wood’s artist in residence\, Rowan Renee\, invites the public to explore their studio space and get a sneak peek of in-progress works for The Perimeter Path\, a site-specific installation planned for Historic Chapel next spring. Rowan’s research at Green-Wood has focused on the Cemetery’s public lots\, creating work that responds to the memorial architecture for those interred in these historically affordable sections. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. Registration is not required\, just stop by!  \n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person Event(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nFor the project\, Rowan has drawn on photographs and burial records from Green-Wood’s archives\, as well as materials sourced from the Cemetery itself. Their labor-intensive processes include stone carving\, mold-making\, and kiln cast glass. \n\n\n\nThe Open Studio will take place in the Fort Hamilton Gatehouse’s attic space (up one flight of stairs) as well as in the ground-floor studio space. This will be a chance to see Rowan’s process and research\, and to ask questions about the experience of working as an artist in an active cemetery.  \n\n\n\nFree. Registration is not required\, just stop by! \n\n\n\nThe Gatehouse is located at Fort Hamilton Parkway and Micieli Place\, easily accessible on the F and G trains at Fort Hamilton Station. DESCRIPTION:Before our gates open to the general public\, birding expert Rob Jett leads these peaceful early morning walking tours to discover the birds that make Green-Wood their home—at least temporarily. By September\, offspring of nesting birds will be on their own. Returning warblers will be in their less flamboyant fall plumage.
