SUMMARY:(Sold Out) A Night at Niblo’s Garden
DESCRIPTION: \nThis event is sold out. Make sure you never miss out on tickets again! Green-Wood members get access to tickets weeks before the general public. Join today. \nThis popular event is back for 2016 and better than ever! Imagine an outdoor pleasure dome\, strung with lights\, adorned with fountains and featuring the top musicians\, dancers and entertainers of the time. That was the scene at Niblo’s Garden – the premier entertainment house of the 19th century. Niblo himself had a habit of turning his Green-Wood mausoleum – built years before his death – into a pleasure garden of its own\, with friends\, picnics\, and entertainment. Rumor has it he even stocked the nearby Crescent Water with goldfish. \nNow we’re transforming Niblo’s final resting place into a Victorian extravaganza of performing arts\, with help from Bindlestiff Family Cirkus\, a vaudeville and arts powerhouse since 1995. Your night will begin with a picnic (bring your own) around the beautiful pond Crescent Water\, and will unfold into an evening of showmanship in front of Niblo’s grand mausoleum. As always\, author and Niblo expert Ben Feldman will hold court as Niblo himself. Bring a blanket\, snacks\, and drinks\, and prepare to be dazzled by 19th-century games\, fire eaters\, contortionists\, and much more – all lit by candles and a starry sky. \n$32 for members of Green-Wood and BHS/$37 for non-members. \nAll events will take place rain or shine. Click here for our inclement weather policy.

SUMMARY:When The Bell Tolls
DESCRIPTION:Are we ever really ready for the time when the bell tolls? If we’re open to talking about it\, we might be a least a little more prepared. Eerdmans Publishing Company)\, Amy Cunningham (blogger at The Inspired Funeral and founder of Fitting Tribute Funeral Services)\, and Benjamin Mitchell-Yellin (Near-Death Experiences: Understanding Visions of the Afterlife\, published by Oxford University Press). \nPresented in partnership with Forum @ St. Ann’s. This program will take place at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church\, at 157 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights. \nFree. Reservations recommended. \n\nMobile users: Please tap here for free registration.\nAll events will take place rain or shine. Click here for our inclement weather policy.

SUMMARY:Dead Distillers: Book Talk and Tasting
DESCRIPTION: \n \n \n \nWay before Brooklyn had swanky cocktail bars and fancy beer\, an armed battle was fought on the streets of Vinegar Hill between American soldiers and moonshiners who had avoided paying taxes on their enterprise. The Whiskey Wars of 1869 are one of the many fascinating tales in Colin Spoelman’s new book Dead Distillers: A History of the Upstarts and Outlaws Who Made American Spirits. Colin\, co-founder of Kings County Distillery\, details the extensive history of the many personalities who left their mark on liquor and spirit production\, some of whom are now permanent residents of Green-Wood\, including Hezekiah Pierrepont\, Clinton Gilbert\, and Charles Wilson. \n \nColin will share expertise from his new book and offer a tasting of several delectable blends that the Kings County Distillery has been brewing – right here in Brooklyn – since 2010. \n \n$5 for members of Green-Wood and BHS / $10 for non-members. \n \nThis event will be held in our Historic Chapel and will take place rain or shine. SUMMARY:Death Café
DESCRIPTION:Credit: Art Presson\n \n \n \n \nThe Death Café is a simple concept. It was inspired by the centuries-old European salon (or café) where people gathered informally to discuss philosophical\, political or scientific ideas. In 2011\, British entrepreneur Jon Underwood brought the concept to discussions of the most universal topic of all: death. Underwood’s intention was to provide an opportunity to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their lives.” Today\, there are over 1\,500 death cafes in 26 countries around the world. \n \nBeginning in January 2017\, Green-Wood is proud to host monthly gatherings of the Death Café here in our beautiful\, modern chapel. Amy Cunningham\, death educator and creator of the Brooklyn-based blog TheInspiredFuneral.com\, invites participants to share their thoughts and feelings on death. It’s an opportunity for safe and open exchanges\, without an agenda. Coffee and light snacks are provided. \n \nFree to attend\, RSVP recommended.
Please register using the Eventbrite box below. \n \nAll events will take place rain or shine.
