DESCRIPTION:Before our gates open to the public\, this early morning walking tour provides exclusive access to discover the many birds that call Green-Wood home\, at least temporarily.  \n\n\n\nStop by this fall and you will see a variety of species passing through. By September\, the offspring of summer’s nesting birds will be on their own. Returning warblers will be in their less flamboyant fall plumage. Catch a glimpse of spot blackbirds\, flycatchers\, sparrows\, vireos\, and swallows on the move. By October\, be on the lookout for returning waterfowl and raptors heading south. During this hands-on event\, you will capture images of wild bees and other insects\, then edit and upload them to the iNaturalist app using your smartphone. \n\n\n\nThe event begins inside the Green-House with The Bee Conservancy’s Program Manager Amy Grumbling about the goals behind The Bee Conservancy’s community science program and an overview of some of the 60+ bee species you might see in Green-Wood. You will also set up your account and device with the iNaturalist app if you have not yet done so\, and equip you to capture clear\, strategic images of bees and other pollinators with your phone or camera. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Green-House at Green-Wood(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nThen we’ll venture into a selection of Green-Wood’s meadows\, enclosure gardens\, and beyond\, where you can unwind in the ecologically rich greenspace while observing and exploring nature through the lens of pollinators — and your smartphone or camera! \n\n\n\nWe will be outdoors for much of this event\, so please dress for comfort and suitably for the weather – we recommend hats\, sunscreen\, comfortable shoes\, and bringing a refillable water bottle as well as a fully charged smartphone or camera. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Bee ConservancyThe Bee Conservancy (TBC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting all bees and fostering thriving food and ecosystems through community-based education\, research\, habitat creation\, and advocacy in urban and underserved areas. \n\n\n\n\n\nAmy GrumblingAmy has been teaching the public about wild and native bees as an Environmental Educator at The Bee Conservancy since 2022\, and is a Cornell-certified Master Beekeeper. She just returned from a week-long workshop on the Natural History of Native Bees at the Eagle Hill Institute in Steuben\, Maine\, where she worked on refining her native bee field identification techniques.
