SUMMARY:Brooklyn’s Black Trailblazers Trolley Tour: Juneteenth Edition
DESCRIPTION:Credit: Green-Wood Staff\n\n\n\n\n\nOn June 19\, 1865\, a Union general informed enslaved people in Texas that they were free—more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Communities across the United States have marked the date ever since. Declared a federal holiday in 2021\, Juneteenth is both a celebration of progress in the fight for freedom and a reminder of how far we still have to go.  \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrolley Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin tour guide David Glover and Talisha Ward\, Green-Wood’s 2025–2026 history fellow\, for a free trolley tour honoring the Black pioneers of Brooklyn buried at Green-Wood—abolitionists\, artists\, activists\, and visionaries who shaped art\, music\, medicine\, and civil rights. Visit the memorials of revolutionary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat; civil rights leaders Grace Nail Johnson and James Weldon Johnson; Charles L. Reason\, the first Black college professor in the United States; and others whose legacies endure in the ongoing struggle for equality.   \n\n\n\nOffered as part of Green-Wood’s America250 celebration\, this tour explores themes that reach beyond the Revolutionary War to examine the broader American experience. Through these stories\, we reflect on how the struggle for liberty has shaped generations throughout American history and continues to influence our future.  \n\n\n\nThis trolley tour is offered for free to make Green-Wood’s rich history more accessible to the public.  \n\n\n\nPlease note that if only 1 ticket shows as available during the registration process\, that is the last ticket available. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\n\nTickets: There is no need to print tickets! Attendees will be checked in by name. \n\n\n\nWhere To Go: Check-in takes place at the trolley by the Gothic Arch near the Main Entrance at Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street). \n\n\n\nAccessibility & Safety: The Green-Wood trolley can accommodate up to two wheelchairs. However\, the trolley may make stops where passengers are encouraged to disembark in areas that are not wheelchair accessible. If you need accommodations for any reason\, please contact our staff before reserving tickets at (718) 768-7300 or events@green-wood.com. To accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility aid on the trolley\, please contact us at least one week in advance. \n\n\n\nA Little More About Safety: Unless there is a medical emergency\, it may be difficult to exit quickly during the tour. SUMMARY:America/Beautiful 250
DESCRIPTION:Min Kwon\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen pianist Min Kwon first conceived America/Beautiful\, the country was in a moment of fracture – pandemic isolation\, racial reckoning\, and political unrest. Looking at her two daughters\, whose birthdays fall on Presidents’ Day and the Fourth of July\, she began asking a simple\, urgent question: What does America mean\, and what kind of nation are we becoming? \n\n\n\nFrom that reflection came an extraordinary undertaking: America/Beautiful. Kwon commissioned more than eighty leading composers across the United States to each write a variation on America the Beautiful\, producing a vast mosaic of voices\, aesthetics\, identities\, and histories. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $90\, $72 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn-Site Event(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nNo two variations are alike. Some are tender and lyrical\, others bracing and dissonant; some meditate\, others protest. Together they form a living portrait of a country in conversation with itself. Now\, as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary\, Kwon returns to the Catacombs with music from this monumental project – timed to the release of her complete recording of all 76 variations. What began as a question has become a document of its time: a sonic archive of how America’s leading creative voices\, in all their diversity\, heard this moment in history. \n\n\n\nMember Discount: Green-Wood and Death of Classical members receive 20% off the above ticket price. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\n\nAttendees must follow all instructions and guidance from Cemetery staff and ambassadors.\n\n\n\nWhere To Go: Check-in begins 15 minutes before your ticketed start time and ONLY takes place at the Arch near the Main Entrance on Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street). There are no paper or e-tickets! Attendees will be checked in by name.\n\n\n\nFood and Drinks: We will start with a 45-minute reception at the Modern Chapel to enjoy a tasting of cocktails by Via Carota and snacks (all free!)\, and the beauty of the Cemetery\, before the program begins. Tasting is for those 21 years of age or older with proof of ID.\n\n\n\nEarly Evening Performance (6pm): Arrive for check-in at the Gothic Arch no later than 6:45pm.\n\n\n\nTwilight Performance (7:30pm): Arrive for check-in at the Gothic Arch no later than 8:15pm.\n\n\n\nAccessibility & Safety: Please note that the Catacombs are a historic structure and not ADA-compliant. Access requires ascending and descending stairs. We strongly encourage attendees to dress for the conditions of the Catacombs\, which can be cooler than the outdoor temperature.\n\n\n\nA Little More About Accessibility & Safety: Attendees may travel to the Catacombs on foot or by trolley. The walk takes about 20-30 minutes\, and includes hilly and uneven terrain. Proper footwear and flashlights are strongly recommended. The Green-Wood trolley is ADA-compliant\, but the Catacombs are not. If you have any questions or concerns regarding disability-related accommodations for this program\, please call (718) 768-7300 or email events@green-wood.com.\n\n\n\nTicket sales are final. No exchanges or refunds unless the event is canceled.
