DESCRIPTION:Credit: Evan Rabeck\n\n\n\n\n\nBefore our gates open to the public\, this early morning walking tour provides special access to discover the many birds that call Green-Wood home\, at least temporarily.  \n\n\n\nThroughout the season\, you’ll witness an ever-changing display of wildlife. April brings pine warblers\, woodpeckers\, and thousands of migrating songbirds among the blooming magnolias and dogwoods\, while herons gather at the glacial ponds. May and early June offer peak birding with over 163 species passing through\, including ruby-throated hummingbirds and wood warblers. Summer sees young red-tailed hawks taking flight\, along with abundant butterflies and dragonflies. The early bird-er might get the worm\, but you can birdwatch at any hour. Join birding expert Rob Jett and a small group of fellow members to roam the grounds while hearing and seeing the many feathered friends of Green-Wood.  \n\n\n\nWinter at Green-Wood brings plenty of opportunities for birdwatching\, with fascinating species to spot even in the colder months. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $15 for members\, $20 for non-member guests \n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn-Person Event(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nFor some migratory birds\, Brooklyn serves as their warm-weather getaway during winter. Built around the restored Victorian 1895 Weir Greenhouse\, it’s a space for exhibitions\, workshops\, research\, and events just across from our Main Entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue. Two large vessels\, formed from thousands of discarded celadon shards\, reflect themes of fragmentation\, diaspora\, and renewal. Visitors are invited to write the names of loved ones on paper “shards\,” contributing to a growing collective artwork. To learn more\, click here. \n\n\n\nTokens of Remembrance: A Card-Making Workshop\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: The Green-House Classroom \n\n\n\nCreate a handmade card for someone you carry in your heart. This family-friendly workshop invites participants of all ages to reflect on someone they love\, someone they’ve lost\, or someone they simply want to hold close\, creating a card that expresses those memories through art. \n\n\n\nDrawing inspiration from artist Jean Shin’s works currently on view at Green-Wood\, this workshop invites you to explore themes of memory\, loss\, and what we choose to keep. Using floral stamps reminiscent of the wildflowers blooming atop Offering\, Shin’s outdoor earthwork near the Main Entrance\, and mulberry paper featured in her Focus Gallery installation\, Celadon Landscape\, you’ll leave with something beautiful\, handmade\, and deeply personal.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn Inside Look: The Center for Research\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: The Green-House Reading Room \n\n\n\nDiscover some of the stories preserved within Green-Wood’s Archives and Collections during this special opening weekend program in the new Center for Research.   \n\n\n\nThis free\, limited-capacity experience invites visitors inside the Reading Room for a guided introduction to the Cemetery’s historical records and objects. Through a curated display of materials\, visitors can explore original documents and artifacts that illuminate the lives\, operations\, and evolution of Green-Wood. View 188-year-old records from Green-Wood’s founding\, correspondences with prominent Green-Wood families\, architectural blueprints\, and more!  \n\n\n\nVisitors may arrive at any time; entry to the Center for Research’s Reading Room will be staggered in small groups due to limited space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n(CANCELLED DUE TO THE RAIN) Community Planting at Jean Shin’s Offering\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: Main Entrance Meadow \n\n\n\nJoin volunteer gardeners to plant native wildflower seedlings in Green-Wood’s Main Entrance meadow as part of artist Jean Shin’s Offering. This large-scale earthwork\, inspired by traditional Korean burial mounds\, is composed entirely from materials sourced within the Cemetery itself: wood chips\, tree trunks\, and glacial rocks.   \n\n\n\nAs you plant\, you’ll learn how the mound was built and how native wildflowers support pollinators and other wildlife. The seedlings you put in the earth will take root in the burial mound\, bringing color and life to the surface while creating a sustained habitat for wildlife. In partnership with FELL\, a Brooklyn-based flower shop and design studio\, the Atrium once again offers blooms for moments of remembrance. Stop by to build your own bouquet\, pick from a wide array of seasonal flowers\, or choose a graveside tribute ready to be placed on the grounds. \n\n\n\nEl Cielo del Mar by Bony Ramírez\n\n\n\n3:00–7:00pmLocation: Historic Chapel \n\n\n\nEl Cielo del Mar by Bony Ramírez is an immersive installation exploring grief as both an inescapable and transformative part of life. Drawing on mythological and cultural associations between the sea and the afterlife\, the work positions water as a threshold where memory\, loss\, and spirit converge. Through sculpture\, painting\, and sound\, the installation creates a shared space for reflection\, inviting visitors to engage with mourning as a collective process of healing and renewal.
