Join us for an unforgettable opening weekend as we celebrate Green-Wood’s newest space with activities designed to delight visitors of all ages. From hands-on workshops to guided explorations\, these programs offer something for everyone to discover\, learn\, and connect with this exciting addition to our historic grounds.   \n\n\n\nThe Green-House at Green-Wood is the Cemetery’s new front door. Built around the restored Victorian 1895 Weir Greenhouse\, it’s a space for exhibitions\, workshops\, research\, and events just across from our Main Entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue. Free and open year-round\, it’s the perfect place to discover the stories behind Green-Wood before heading onto the grounds.  \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: Free. Two large vessels\, formed from thousands of discarded celadon shards\, reflect themes of fragmentation\, diaspora\, and renewal. Visitors are invited to write the names of loved ones on paper “shards\,” contributing to a growing collective artwork. To learn more\, click here. \n\n\n\nTokens of Remembrance: A Card-Making Workshop\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: The Green-House Classroom \n\n\n\nCreate a handmade card for someone you carry in your heart. This family-friendly workshop invites participants of all ages to reflect on someone they love\, someone they’ve lost\, or someone they simply want to hold close\, creating a card that expresses those memories through art. \n\n\n\nDrawing inspiration from artist Jean Shin’s works currently on view at Green-Wood\, this workshop invites you to explore themes of memory\, loss\, and what we choose to keep. Using floral stamps reminiscent of the wildflowers blooming atop Offering\, Shin’s outdoor earthwork near the Main Entrance\, and mulberry paper featured in her Focus Gallery installation\, Celadon Landscape\, you’ll leave with something beautiful\, handmade\, and deeply personal.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn Inside Look: The Center for Research\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: The Green-House Reading Room \n\n\n\nDiscover some of the stories preserved within Green-Wood’s Archives and Collections during this special opening weekend program in the new Center for Research.   \n\n\n\nThis free\, limited-capacity experience invites visitors inside the Reading Room for a guided introduction to the Cemetery’s historical records and objects. Through a curated display of materials\, visitors can explore original documents and artifacts that illuminate the lives\, operations\, and evolution of Green-Wood. View 188-year-old records from Green-Wood’s founding\, correspondences with prominent Green-Wood families\, architectural blueprints\, and more!  \n\n\n\nVisitors may arrive at any time; entry to the Center for Research’s Reading Room will be staggered in small groups due to limited space. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrooklyn Public Library Kidsmobile\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: Main Entrance Meadow \n\n\n\nThe library comes to Green-Wood to celebrate the Green-House and the coming of spring! Come explore and even check out books about nature from the Kidsmobile on the Saturday of the Green-House Grand Opening Weekend Celebration! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCommunity Planting at Jean Shin’s Offering\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: Main Entrance Meadow \n\n\n\nJoin volunteer gardeners to plant native wildflower seedlings in Green-Wood’s Main Entrance meadow as part of artist Jean Shin’s Offering. This large-scale earthwork\, inspired by traditional Korean burial mounds\, is composed entirely from materials sourced within the Cemetery itself: wood chips\, tree trunks\, and glacial rocks.   \n\n\n\nAs you plant\, you’ll learn how the mound was built and how native wildflowers support pollinators and other wildlife. The seedlings you put in the earth will take root in the burial mound\, bringing color and life to the surface while creating a sustained habitat for wildlife. Contribute to something that will keep growing long after the day is done.  \n\n\n\nPlants\, gloves\, and tools will be provided by Green-Wood staff and volunteers.   \n\n\n\nMeadow Activities for Offering\n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: Main Entrance Meadow \n\n\n\nDrop in to observe plants and pollinators up close at a “plant and pollinator petting zoo\,” decorate then plant seeds in small flower pots\, make your own sachet with mountain mint\, magnolia buds\, and other herbs\, and to partake in a scavenger hunt. A few steps away\, get your picture taken at a free photo booth where the iconic Arch will serve as your backdrop! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn More: The Green-House at a Glance \n\n\n\n10:00am–3:00pmLocation: Throughout the Green-House \n\n\n\nMeet the faces of Green-Wood! Our volunteer docents are stationed throughout the Green-House\, bringing the Collections to life with captivating stories\, insider knowledge\, and a glimpse of everything Green-Wood has to offer year-round. Stop by and say hello; look for anyone with a docent badge\, you won’t want to miss what they have to share!  \n\n\n\nFlowers at the Green-House (with FELL)\n\n\n\n10:00am–6:00pmLocation: Green-House Atrium (restored 1895 Weir Greenhouse) \n\n\n\nFlowers return to the Green-House. In partnership with FELL\, a Brooklyn-based flower shop and design studio\, the Atrium once again offers blooms for moments of remembrance. Stop by to build your own bouquet\, pick from a wide array of seasonal flowers\, or choose a graveside tribute ready to be placed on the grounds. \n\n\n\nNurturing the Remains: A Community Ritual at Jean Shin’s Offering\n\n\n\n3:00–5:00pmLocation: Modern Chapel \n\n\n\nJoin us on the first day of Offering\, a new site-specific installation by artist Jean Shin. Created from fallen trees from the Cemetery’s grounds\, the work draws inspiration from Korean tumuli burial mounds and honors cycles of remembrance\, decay\, and renewal. \n\n\n\nTo mark the opening of the installation and the debut weekend of the historic Green-House\, we will begin in the Modern Chapel\, where Shin will introduce the work\, followed by remarks from Gabrielle Gatto\, Manager of Public Programs\, on Green-Wood’s approach to death education and collective remembrance. Participants will then take part in a community ritual led by Mudang Jenn\, a Korean shaman. Drawing on mythological and cultural associations between the sea and the afterlife\, the work positions water as a threshold where memory\, loss\, and spirit converge. Through sculpture\, painting\, and sound\, the installation creates a shared space for reflection\, inviting visitors to engage with mourning as a collective process of healing and renewal. All activities are offered on a first-come\, first-served basis.   \n\n\n\nIs the Green-House ADA-compliant?  Yes\, the Green-House is ADA-compliant. However\, some areas of the Cemetery may be difficult to navigate for those with mobility issues. To discuss accessibility options or accommodations\, please email contactus@green-wood.com.   \n\n\n\nWill there be a line to enter?  Entry to the Green-House may require a short wait due to capacity limits. We recommend allowing extra time and taking advantage of outdoor activities while you’re here.    \n\n\n\nHow do I join a walking or trolley tour?  Tours are free and first come\, first served\, with limited capacity. We strongly recommend signing up as early as possible. Same-day registration will take place at the Main Entrance meadow.    \n\n\n\nWill anything be available for purchase?  Green-Wood merch and light snack mixes from Sahadi’s will be available in the Lobby\, and FELL\, a Brooklyn-based flower shop\, will be on-site in the Green-House Atrium with fresh flowers\, bouquets\, and graveside tributes.   \n\n\n\nIs photography allowed?  Photography is allowed\, but please be respectful of Cemetery services and other visitors.    \n\n\n\nAnything else I should know?  Green-Wood is an active cemetery. DESCRIPTION:Courtesy of Fort Hamilton Distillery\n\n\n\n\n\nDelve into the storied past of distilled spirits in Brooklyn with Green-Wood and our neighbors at Fort Hamilton Distillery. The afternoon kicks off with a trolley tour of the Cemetery to discover influential figures of the Revolutionary War and distillers who made their mark on the young Republic. Afterward\, the trolley heads to Fort Hamilton Distillery in Industry City where you’ll experience “white” rye straight off the still\, sample whiskey directly from the barrel\, and learn how to bottle your own spirits! You’ll get a tasting of four whiskeys\, followed by a sampling of barrel-aged maple syrup. \n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: $50\, $45 for members \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGet Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrolley Tour(see details below)\n\n\n\n\n\nFort Hamilton Distillery started barreling whiskey in 2016 when founders Alex Clark and Amy Grindeland embarked on a mission to recapture America’s finest spirits. Based in Industry City\, Brooklyn\, just steps from the Cemetery\, the distillery is surrounded by landmarks of the Revolutionary War\, from which the whiskey maker draws his inspiration. \n\n\n\nPlease note that if only 1 ticket shows as available during the purchase process that is the last ticket available. \n\n\n\nBefore Purchasing A Ticket\, Please Note:\n\n\n\n\nAttendees MUST be 21 or older to participate. ID cards will be checked!\n\n\n\nTickets: There is no need to print tickets!
