Tree Planting Program

The gift of a tree is a unique and caring way to commemorate any occasion. Birthday, anniversaries, Memorial Day, Arbor Day or to celebrate the birth of a child are just a few of the "special days" when this gift is appropriate. There is also no better way to honor the memory of a departed loved one than with this living and thriving tribute. It is our goal to improve the care that we give to all of our thousands of trees and to plant two trees for every one that is lost due to age or disease. Your contribution will go a long way to enhance the natural beauty and traditions of Green-Wood.

How does the program work?

You will work closely with a Historic Fund representative to select the site and choose which variety of tree is most suitable to Green-Wood's historic landscape. Donors will have a great assortment to choose from, including deciduous trees such as Norway and Red Maples, Horse Chestnut, White Birch, Oak, Beech, Colorado and Norway Spruce, White Pine and Douglas Fir, as well as exotic trees such as Japanese Maple, Golden Rain, Flowering Japanese Cherry, Crab Apple and Chinese Dogwood. The length of sponsorship is determined by which option you choose.

For a $500 tax-deductible contribution, a new tree of your choosing will be planted in your name or in the name of the person you are honoring. An attractive plaque commemorating your thoughtful gesture and bearing your name or the name of the person you are honoring, as well as a description of the species, will be placed by the tree for a period of ten years. In addition, your generosity will be acknowledged on our Horticultural Remembrance Plaque which will be displayed at the office of the Cemetery. After the initial ten-year sponsorship, you will be given first opportunity to renew your living, growing tribute.

For a $250 tax-deductible contribution, you can adopt a special tree in Green-Wood that you are particularly fond of. Your gift will allow us to provide this tree with the tender loving care that it needs and deserves. An attractive plaque commemorating your generosity and bearing your name or the name of the person you are honoring, as well as a description of the species, will be placed on the tree for a period of five years. After the initial five year sponsorship, you will be given first opportunity to renew your living tribute.

Recognizing Donors

An attractive plaque will be placed by the tree memorializing your thoughtfulness. Your generous gift will be acknowledged on our Horticultural Remembrance Plaque. Listing in an on-line inventory of Memorialized Trees, to be added to Green-Wood's Website, www.green-wood.com, in 2001.
